All Boys Love To Dig

We are regrading our back yard to give us more of an area to play.  Our back yard was pretty much just a downhill slope before.  Todd spent one whole day playing with the Bobcat.

This is what it looks like before the dig.

All smoothed out after the rough grading.

Grass planted with straw over it to mulch and protect.  Can't wait to enjoy it this summer!

Cherry Blossoms

This is the view of the walk to school.  I love being surrounded by Cherry Blossoms.

This is a huge tree!  But lets be honest, these trees may have the most beautiful blossoms, but they are rather ugly otherwise.  They have very tiny leaves in the summer and when you even mention the word "cold" they drop their leaves.  So, as with everything in life, you give and take.  But I will sure enjoy the blossoms while I can!

Looking up through the trees it reminds you of winter when the snow sits heavy on the trees!

Pine Wood Derby 2012

Last night was the annual Pine Wood Derby that every cub scout dreams about!  Dane invited two of the neighborhood boys (William and Scott) to design a car and race it as well.  Thanks for sharing the fun with your friends, Dane!

Paint Branch Trail

On Monday Alex, Seth, and I hiked the Paint Branch Trail.  It was a 2.7 mile hike.  So we hiked a total of 5.4 miles.  It was a little steep in a few places and we had to stop and rest a few times, but it is a nice trail.  It is paved the whole way.  It is nice for pushing the stroller or if you were riding a bike.  This trail is really fun and kind of magical.  It is surrounded by trees and you feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere and you happen upon a basketball court.  You head down a bit further and you come to a small playground.  A little bit further down is a pond.  All of these places are surrounded by trees, kind of like a "Secret Garden" kind of feel.  I am going to take the rest of the children on this hike next week during Spring Break.  I think they will like it as well.  Alex has now walked a total of 50 miles!  Congratulations, Alex!

Continuation from last post

Ok, time to let you know what's going on with the rest of the gang!

Karsten- Kar has been taking swimming lessons on Thursdays and loving it. It is helping with his confidence in the water.

Dane- Dane is getting ready for the Pinewood Derby which will be held on Tuesday.

Emily- She is busy each Tuesday night practicing for her chorus concert in May.

Spring is here out East! The cherry blossoms are starting to pop out. All the tulip trees are flowering. It's been really nice. The daffodils are in full bloom as well. We have spring break in two weeks. I'm not sure what to do with the children while they are out of school, maybe some hiking. I thought about driving out to the beach, but it may still be a little too cool this far north at the beach. We'll see.
